Client: NTU International A/S & European Research Executive Agency (REA)

Overview
SquareX Solutions is delivering the digital infrastructure for the Mission Implementation Platform of the EU Mission "A Soil Deal for Europe", as part of the consortium led by NTU International A/S. The contract (REA/2025/OP/0009) was awarded by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and runs for 36 months from February 2026. Implementing Partner: SquareX Solutions
Consortium Lead: NTU International A/S
Contract: REA/2025/OP/0009 — 36 months from February 2026
Stakeholders: European Research Executive Agency (REA), DG AGRI Mission Secretariat
Objective
The Mission Soil Platform (MSP) is the central hub of a Mission with a firm deadline attached, namely healthy soils across Europe by 2050. It connects funded research projects, the Mission Secretariat at the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), Manifesto signatories, Mission Soil Ambassadors, regional authorities, farmers and private investors. Getting that many audiences into one coherent, accessible, EU-compliant environment is a technical problem before it is a communication one.
Four SquareX specialists contribute across all five contract tasks: an IT Systems and Platform Architect, a Full-Stack Developer, a Data Management and AI Expert, and a Website Manager.
Platform Capabilities
- Project Hub with automated project profiles fed by APIs from CORDIS and the Horizon Results Platform
- Knowledge Hub with semantic search, interactive maps and AI-assisted tagging of soil research outputs
- Mission Soil Dashboard tracking progress against the Mission objectives, rebuilt for WCAG 2.1 accessibility, mobile use and open data export
- Soil Health Investment Tracker linking soil projects to private finance providers and blended finance models
Project Management Tool (PMT)
Delivered on schedule and declared fully operational at Milestone M1 in June 2026, the PMT is built entirely inside Microsoft 365, ensuring full compatibility with the European Commission IT environment. Twelve live registers act as a single source of truth for more than 50 deliverables and 14 milestones, with a three-layer warning system that flags slippage 14 and 7 days ahead of every deadline and escalates at-risk items automatically.
Impact
- REA and the Mission Secretariat see live traffic-light status for every deliverable without chasing anyone for an update
- Monthly meeting packs, progress reports and KPI dashboards are generated from live register data instead of assembled by hand
- Interoperability with SoilWise, PREPSOIL and the EU Soil Observatory keeps soil knowledge findable in one place rather than scattered across portals
- Project teams spend their days on soil science, not on reporting overhead
Over the next two years we will deepen the data pipelines behind the Dashboard, expand AI-supported search across the Knowledge Hub, and scale the Investment Tracker as the pipeline of soil health investment opportunities grows.
